Pupil Premium is additional funding received by schools for each eligible pupil. It is allocated to schools based on the number of children who come from low-income families – this is defined as those who are currently known to be eligible for free school meals.


Being eligile for Free School Meals does not mean that your child has to have them.  They can have packed lunches if they wish.  For school to receive the Pupil Premium grant, however, parents or carers must have applied to Lancashire County Council.  This is very simple and can be done over the phone to Lancashire County Council, Pupil Access Team, or by completing a form that is availble from the school office.  Receving this funding enavbles the school to purchase additonal resources that can greatly help all the children.

Our school receives Pupil Premium Funding when Free School Meals are offered to children of families who are in receipt of:

  • Income Support or
  • Job Seekers Allowance (Income based) or
  • Support under part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999 or
  • The Guaranteed element of State Pension Credit or
  • Income related Employment Support Allowance or
  • Child Tax Credit and are not entitled to Working Tax Credit and your annual income, as assessed by the Inland Revenue, does not exceed £16,190 (April 10 figure)
  • Working Tax Credit during the four week period immediately after your employment finishes or after you start to work less than 16 hours per week.

The Government does not allow us to recognise any other benefit other than those mentioned above.

with details of your name, date of birth and National Insurance number and an immediate on-line decision can be given.

Once you have applied and been granted free school meals for your children you do not need to re-apply annually. You will be contacted, normally in August each year, to confirm whether or not your children are still entitled to free school meals. 

* Even if your child does not wish to have the school meals, it is still worth applying for free school meals if you are eligible, as the school and your child will then benefit from funding for Pupil Premium.  Pupil Premium funding can greatly benefit your child's learning experiences at the school.
